Recent history
The women's team came into the 2025-26 European Championship as defending champions: they had won the 2023-24 edition unbeaten, with wins in Finland (12-0), over Germany in Calatayud (8-6) and over Great Britain, also in Calatayud (21-16). The last game, against Sweden, was not played and counted as a Spanish win. [6] [8] [7]
In 2025-26 they lost in Bonn to Germany (7-22), came back against Great Britain in Jaca (26-22) with a 65-yard Victoria Valverde pass to Paula Martínez, and lost in Calatayud to eventual champions Finland (13-31). Great Britain withdrew from the bronze game and the medal went to Spain. [1] [2] [3] [4] [9]
A new era began in September 2026: Jesús Efrén Sánchez, previously a coach at Osos Rivas, Gijón Mariners and Mallorca Voltors, took over from Manuel Ibáñez, who stays on the staff. No games have been announced for the rest of 2026. [5]
